Great Glen Way - Day 1

We started off our walk today (Sept. 10th) with a 10.5 mile walk from Fort William to Gairlochy.  We started in the town of course and working our way out along a riverside path then into connecting towns.  Saw some interesting front yards to say the least!!  We then got to Neptune's Ladder which is a series of locks on the canal.  The rest of the walk was along the tow path of the canal so very flat walking on a good surface.  We had started the walk about 9 a.m. and stopped for lunch about 12:30 - June and I shared a sandwich and that was just right.  It was so calm and peaceful - you could hear the cows lowing and the sheep bleating.  The mountains were spectacular with heather on them.  We did see walkers and cyclists on the route but for the most part it was just us.  We did meet up with a few doggies along the way so had to visit of course.

We certainly were lucky with the weather...cloudy at first but the sun kept breaking through and NO RAIN.  I believe I got some beautiful shots but I won't be uploading them tonight.  It was just a very special day and very relaxing.

When we got to Gairlochy we had to wait a bit for a taxi but that was okay too.  We are staying in Spean Bridge at a small hotel.  Nothing spectacular but it does the trick and the gals in the bar and who run it are super nice.  I had a great steak and ale pie with chips and veggies as well as a glass of wine.  No more up is drinking some water and then an early night as we walk 13 miles tomorrow.

Not as easy tomorrow...rain is predicted...for the morning at least.  I am feeling pretty good but do plan to hydrate and do more stretches tonight before bed.

Once I get my photos uploaded I will post some on here so check back!!

Okay here are some photos of our walk...
