The Easter fountains of Heiligenstadt, Germany

One of the traditions in Upper Franconia in Northern Bavaria is decorating their town fountains for Easter.  My friend Claudia had told me about the tradition and I had hoped someday I would get to see them...well I arrived a few days after Easter and sure enough, the decorations were still up. I found it so charming - these eggs are all decorated by the locals.

So here are some photos I the way these are all real egg shells (some of the other nearby towns use plastic eggs.) .......hope you enjoy them as much as I did! .

Smaller fountain just outside the village

The local castle!

They seem to like penguins and ladybugs...and sheep!!
