Vikings and a cathedral at Roskilde

One of the things I wanted to do in Denmark was to visit the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.  When Berit told me that Claudia wanted to see the museum and would I be okay with going there I nearly started jumping with joy.  In case you haven't guessed by now I am a little obsessed with Vikings.   Roskilde which is one of Denmark's oldest cities is just over an hour's drive from Bisserup.  Our first stop was the museum.   I had planned to treat the three of us to the admission but...yep you guessed it...my credit card did not work.  Claudia saved the day and paid for it. Embarrassing!  Foolishly I had left my back up Visa card back at the flat.   There were newly made boats but the originals were in the building ahead.  Like this one!  Or these!  I had to pose for one - wearing my Newfoundland Viking Trail t-shirt of course!  We even got to go on a Viking ship with a screen in the background that made us think we were sailing off in

Time with friends in a Danish Village - Part 1

Despite the rickety stairs and the dirty sink, our little home in Bisserup proved to be quite cozy - for the amount of time we stayed there that is! I just had a snoop and it's on Airbnb.  She has smartened it up a bit but of course you still have to walk downstairs to the bathroom. And the sink is still the same!  Berit insisted on fixing us breakfast every morning despite us protesting that we could easily pick up some pastries and fruit and have our breakfast in the flat.  She wouldn't hear of it.  No hardship; her breakfast spread was amazing!  The walk to Berit's house So every morning we would walk over to Berit's; it was less than a ten-minute walk but a scenic one.  Here are some photos taken over the six mornings we made the trip.  Claudia would make her tea (I had taken over a big bag of PG Tips from England for her - her favourite!) and I would make my coffee (provided) and then we would set off.  This is the outside of the house we stayed in.  We

My second most stressful day in Scandinavia...but a happy ending.

As I am typing the beginning of this post it has no title.  I can't think of one!  Not a lot of pretty pictures in this one.   This was my last day in Copenhagen (for now...).  Later that day around 4 p.m. I was heading off to visit friends in Bisserup which is about an hour south of the city.   As my Copenhagen card had run out I decided to get a day pass for the metro and head into town for one last look around.   Well!  I stuck my credit card into the machine (there were no ticket offices at the outlying metro stations - not that I saw anyway!) and it came back with "incorrect PIN".  So I stuck it in again.."Incorrect PIN"  As I was traveling that day I had my money belt with me so I pulled out my back up VISA card...and even that didn't work! This time it told me "invalid card".  I didn't have the correct change on me and there were no shops nearby.  So I took a risk, hoping I didn't get "busted" for not having a valid
