This morning I awoke to a dull day and after my usual "at home" breakfast of yogurt and a banana I headed to the metro. Emerging from the metro downtown I found it was pissing down rain. I caught the #7 tram but due to flooding on the road it didn't go too far. Luckily I had my umbrella with me and off I trudged...first point of call was the Nordic Museum. The picture below was taken in front of the museum.
It was such an interesting museum. I particularly enjoyed the Laplander (called the Sami) exhibition as well as the Folk Art. The Sami are an indigenous people occupying the northern parts of Sweden, Norway, Sweden and a part of Russia. There are around 20,000 in Sweden.
The folk art was beautiful.
My pictures were absolute sh*t - anyway above is what is called an Angel cupboard due to the Angel near the top.
I really enjoyed the Nordic museum and I would go back.
Next up was the Viking museum!
Now this was a museum for the kiddies of all ages. I was in heaven! And I got to try on a Viking helmet and pose with a shield and axe!
Rrroar!! Watch out!!
And this guy took the picture!!!
The museum was not only fun but very informative and there was a ride as well that was kind of lame but still a laugh. I'd go again!
Before getting the tram back to my next destination I decided to walk over to a nearby park.
Then it was time to get the tram back to my next destination.
Time for a drinkie at the Ice Bar in the C Hotel which needs to be booked ahead. This is the world's first Ice bar and the interior is carved from 40 tons of ice from the Torne river. You pick a 40 minute slot online and the cost includes a drink (I chose a fancy rum drink) and they provide the clothing. I didn't last the 40 minutes. This wimpy Canadian lasted less than 30 minutes. Well really...I had my drink, had my picture taken, parked my ass on a block of ice and took pictures. What else was there to do? I think the Ice Bar is definitely something to do with another person as you can chat. At around $28 Canadian if you book online it certainly isn't cheap but it's also something fun to do once in your lifetime.
The "glass" was ice.
The theme was immigration to a new life. I guess they change the theme every year and this one was dedicated to those that crossed the ocean for a new home. And of course it was to the U.S. (insert eye roll)
No pictures of what I ate that day...did I really eat if I don't have a picture? I'm not known to miss a meal so it must have not been anything worth mentioning - it's not even in my journal!!!
And that was day three!
